The Oakland Athletics acquire outfielder Dee Brown from the Diamondbacks

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures, Bloglockers, Front Page by chinmusic on Thursday 31 May 2007 at 3:48 pm

The A’s have acquired Dee Brown from the D-Backs for some cold, hard cash. Brown played in 29 games this season for the D-Backs AAA team and he was 39 for 134 (.291 avg, .758 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 2 homers and 25 RBIs. Look for Brown to stay in AAA unless the A’s get crippled again by injuries.

The Oakland Athletics had another rough week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Wednesday 30 May 2007 at 1:47 pm

The A’s were only 2-4 last week as they were outscored 36-23!  The A’s didn’t pitch well or hit the ball well and that’s the reason for their horrid week. The A’s entered this week with a 24-25 record which had them in 3rd place in the American League West, 6 games behind the Angels.

Milton Bradley placed on the DL again by the Oakland Athletics

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Monday 28 May 2007 at 11:41 pm

Milton Bradley has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring. In 15 games this season, Bradley is 14 for 51 (.275 avg, .798 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBIs. Bradley has a lot of talent, but it doesn’t matter if he’s always hurt.

Connor Robertson placed on the DL by the Oakland A’s

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Monday 28 May 2007 at 11:35 pm

Connor Robertson has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken right thumb. in his first three major league games, he pitched 2 innings and allowed 6 hits and 4 earned runs. He has a lot of work to do if he wants to pitch in the major leagues as he had a rough start to his career.

Daric Barton off to a rough start for the Oakland A’s

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster, The Minors by chinmusic on Sunday 27 May 2007 at 10:38 pm

21 year old lefty swinging 1B Daric Barton is off to a terrible start in AAA ball. Barton is supposedly the #2 prospect in the Oakland A’s minor league system according to Baseball America, but he isn’t showing it yet. In 46 games, Barton is 41 for 169 (.243 avg, .740 OPS) with 19 runs scored, 4 homers and 27 RBIs. Don’t look for Barton to get a chance any time soon with the A’s unless he starts hitting the ball much better.

Dan Haren has been awesome for the Oakland Athletics so far this season

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Throwing Well by chinmusic on Friday 25 May 2007 at 6:01 pm

Dan Haren has been awesome so far this season. In 10 starts, Haren is 4-2 with a 1.74 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP so far this season. In 67.1 innings, he has allowed only 47 hits and 16 walks while whiffing 54 batters. Haren has been hamstrung by the A’s weak offense that has cost him a few wins already this season. If the A’s start hitting when Haren pitches he might have a chance at a Cy Young Award this season.

Dallas Braden off to a rough start for the Oakland Athletics

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Pitching BP by chinmusic on Friday 25 May 2007 at 5:56 pm

Dallas Braden is finding out that major league hitters can be tough on rookie pitchers. In 4 starts, Braden is 1-3 with a 6.41 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP so far. In 19.2 innings, he has allowed 21 hits, walked 6 batters and he has whiffed 15. Braden will need to mix his pitches a little better if he wants to stay in the big leagues.

The Oakland A’s had a sub-par week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Weekly Results by chinmusic on Friday 25 May 2007 at 5:51 pm

The A’s went 3-4 last week despite outscoring their opponents 33-26. The A’s wasted a lot of runs as they should have won more games than they did last week. The A’s came into this week with a 22-21 record which had them in 2nd place in the American League West, 4 games behind the Angels.

Justin Duchscherer placed on the DL by the Oakland A’s

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Injuries by chinmusic on Wednesday 23 May 2007 at 2:36 pm

The Oakland A’s have placed Justin Duchscherer on the 15-day disabled list with a right hip strain. This comes at a bad time for the A’s as closer Huston Street is already on the DL. Duchscherer would be the closer right now if he wasn’t injured, so the A’s will go with a combination of lefty Alan Embree and righty Kiko Calero. Duchscherer was off to a rough start to the season as he is 3-3 with a 4.96 ERA and a 1.59 WHIP in 17 games so far this season. The A’s need him back as soon as possible.

Eric Chavez needs to break out of his current slump for the Oakland A’s

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, In Need of a Slumpbuster by chinmusic on Monday 21 May 2007 at 2:25 pm

Eric Chavez is starting to be bothered by the same nagging injuries that he had last season, and it’s starting to effect his bat again. In his last 7 games, Chavez is only 4 for 25 (.160 avg) with 5 runs scored and 1 RBI. If Chavez continues to slump, the A’s will need to drop him in the batting order because they can’t afford to give him extra atbats when he’s hitting like he is right now.Â
