The Oakland A’s trade Dan Haren to the Diamondbacks

The Oakland A’s have traded Dan Haren and Connor Robertson to the D-Backs for outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, outfielder Aaron Cunningham, 1B Chris Carter, and lefty pitchers Brett Anderson, Greg Smith and Dana Eveland. 22 year old lefty swinger Carlos Gonzalez was a big key to this trade as he was probably the best hitting prospect that the D-Backs had. He played in 130 games in AA+AAA ball and he was 144 for 500 (.288 avg, .814 OPS) with 72 runs scored, 17 homers, 86 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. 21 year old righty Aaron Cunningham also had some impressive numbers in the minors for the D-Backs. He played in 127 games in A+AA ball last season and he was 152 for 493 (.308 avg, .885 OPS) with 101 runs scored, 16 homers, 77 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. 21 year old righty swinging Chris Carter also has a large upside. Carter played in 126 games in A-Ball and he was 136 for 467 (.291 avg, .906 OPS) with 84 runs scored, 25 homers and 93 RBIs. Lefty starting pitcher Brett Anderson has the biggest upside of any of the pitchers that the A’s acquired from the D-Backs. He started 23 games in A-Ball last season and he was 11-7 with a 3.07 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP. He also whiffed 125 batters in 120.1 innings which shows what kind of stuff he has. 24 year old lefty Greg Smith will probably vie for a spot in the A’s bullpen in Spring Training. He was 9-5 with a 3.54 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP in AA+AAA ball last season. 24-year old pitcher Dana Eveland is the only player that the A’s received with major league experience but none of it has been good. He pitched in 5 games (1 start) last season for the D-Backs and he was 1-0 with a 14.40 ERA and a 2.60 WHIP. Eveland has now pitched in 41 games (6 starts) in his major league career and he is 2-4 with a 7.55 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP. Dan Haren has been a good pitcher for the A’s but they couldn’t pass up getting all of these solid prospects for him….but this means that the A’s are in rebuilding mode.

The Oakland A’s claim Jay Marshall off of waivers

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page by chinmusic on Thursday 6 December 2007 at 4:59 pm

The Oakland A’s have re-claimed 24 year old lefty reliever off of waivers from the Red Sox. He pitched in 51 games last season for the A’s and he was 1-2 with a 6.43 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP. He pitched 42 innings last season and he allowed 50 hits, walked 22 batters and whiffed 18. To make room on the roster for Marshall the A’s have designated righty reliever Jose Garcia for assignment. He pitched in 5 games in 2006 for the Marlins and he was 0-0 with a 4.91 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. Incidentally, Garcia was the pitcher that bumped Marshall from the roster in the first place. He must not have progressed much in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

The Oakland Athletics claim Wes Bankston off waivers from the Royals

Blogged under Arrivals & Departures,Bloglockers,Front Page by chinmusic on Saturday 1 December 2007 at 12:07 am

The A’s have claimed Wes Bankston off waivers from the Royals. The 24-year old was once one of the brighest prospects in the Devil Rays farm system but a couple of down years have hurt his status. The A’s will give Bankston a fresh start and see what he can do. Bankston played in 104 games last season in AAA and he was 93 for 390 (.238 avg, .700 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 15 homers and 59 RBIs. This was a nice low risk move by Billy Beane.
