The Oakland Athletics have signed 38-year old lefty swinging 1B/DH Jason Giambi to a 1-year, $5.25 million dollar contract. He played in 145 games for the Yankees last season and he was 113 for 458 (.247 avg, .875 OPS) with 68 runs scored, 32 homers and 96 RBIs. Giambi has now played in 1,850 games in his major league career and he is 1,812 for 6,332 (.286 avg, .942 OPS) with 1,116 runs scored, 396 homers and 1,279 RBIs. This was a great signing for the A’s who were getting almost no production out of 1B last season. The A’s have designated 32-year old righty swinging infielder Joe Dillon for assignment to make room on the roster for Giambi. Dillon played in 56 games for the Brewers last season and he was 16 for 75 (.213 avg, .630 OPS) with 13 runs scored, 1 homer and 6 RBIs. The A’s hope that no one puts a claim in for Dillon so they can bring him to spring training.
