The A’s brought starting 2B Mark Ellis back too quick from a hamstring injury (strained left hammy) and he re-injured it and has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. Ellis has played in 8 games for the A’s this season and he is 10 for 31 (.323 avg, .769 OPS) with 8 runs scored and 3 RBIs. He will be missed for his hard nose play and his defense. Adam Rosales will replace Ellis as the starting 2B while he is out of action. Rosales has played in 11 games this season for the A’s and he is 8 for 31 (.258 avg, .722 OPS) with 7 runs scored and 7 RBIs. I expect him to do a solid job until Ellis comes back. The A’s have recalled 28-year old switch hitting catcher Landon Powell to replace Ellis on the active roster. He has played in 6 games in AAA-ball this season and he is 5 for 23 (.217 avg, .715 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 1 homer and 2 RBIs. Powell was the A’s backup catcher last season and I’m sure that he will do a decent job while he is up.
