The Oakland Athletics acquire Ryan Kelly from the Pirates
The Oakland A’s have acquired 23-year old righty reliever Ryan Kelly from the Pirates for 27-year old IF/OF Corey Wimberly. Kelly pitched in 38 games (1 start) in A-ball last season and he was 2-3 with 4 saves, a 4.20 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He showed outstanding control by whiffing 75 batters while only walking 14 in his 75 innings in the minors last year. Kelly has now pitched in 81 games (11 starts) in his first four years in the minors and he is 6-7 with 11 saves, 4.74 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. This was a good deal for the A’s as Kelly has a nice upside and youth on his side.
UPDATE: (1/8/2011) - The A’s have flipped Ryan Kelly to the Rangers for Guillermo Moscoso.
