The A’s have designated 30-year old righty reliever Jim Miller for assignment. Miller pitched in 33 games (0 starts) for the A’s last year and he was 2-1 with a 2.59 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. He has now pitched in 47 games (0 starts) in his first three years in the majors and he is 2-3 with 1 save, a 2.42 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. Miller shouldn’t have too hard of a job finding a new team this winter as he pitched pretty well for the A’s last year.

The A’s have designated 27-year old righty swinging SS Brandon Hicks for assignment. Hicks played in 22 games for the A’s last year and he was 11 for 64 (.172 avg, .633 OPS) with 8 runs scored, 3 homers, 7 RBIs, 1 stolen base and an amazingly awful 31 whiffs. Hicks has now played in 55 games in his first three years in the majors and he is 12 for 90 (.133 avg, .493 OPS) with 16 runs scored, 3 homers, 8 RBIs and 1 stolen base. This isn’t much of a loss for the A’s as Hicks can’t hit.

UPDATE: (11/26/2012) - The A’s have dealt Brandon Hicks to the New York Mets for cash considerations.
