The A’s selected 27-year old righty swinging catcher Steve Hill in the AAA-phase of the Rule 5 Draft away from the Cardinals. Hill played in 9 games for the Cardinals last year and he was 2 for 10 (.200 avg, .500 OPS) with 1 run scored. He also played in 87 games in AAA-ball for the Cardinals last year in which he was 80 for 301 (.266 avg, .815 OPS) with 52 runs scored, 17 homers and 52 RBIs. Hill has played in 10 games in his first two years in the majors and he is 3 for 13 (.231 avg, .769 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI. Hill will likely start the 2013 season in AAA-ball and be the first catcher the A’s call up if the need arises.
