The Oakland A’s call up Dillon Overton

The Oakland A’s have called up 24-year old Dillon Overton and he will start tonight against the Los Angeles Angels.  Overton came into this season as the A’s #8 prospect according to Baseball America.  Overton has pitched in 14 games (13 starts) in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP.  Overton has now pitched in 53 games (50 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 15-13 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP.  The A’s have sent 28-year old lefty starting pitcher Eric Surkamp to AAA to make room for Overton.  Surkamp has now pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 0-5 with a 6.98 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP.  The A’s should just let the kids pitch.  Surkamp isn’t suddenly going to quit stinking up the place.

Sean Doolittle is back to his old self this year for the Oakland A’s

29-year old lefty reliever Sean Doolittle is back to being his old self this year for the Oakland A’s after struggling through shoulder problems in 2015.  Doolittle has pitched in 33 games (0 starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 2-2 with 3 saves, a 2.51 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.  He has given up only 19 hits and 8 walks while whiffing 35 batters in his first 28 2/3 innings so far this year, as he has been excellent!  Doolittle has now pitched in 220 games (0 starts) in his first five years with the A’s and he is 12-12 with 32 saves, a 2.97 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

The Oakland A’s have called up Arismendy Alcantara

The Oakland A’s have called up 24-year old switch-hitting 2B/OF Arismendy Alcantara.  Alcantara played in 10 games in AAA-ball for the A’s this year after coming over in the Chris Coghlan deal with the Cubs and he was 6 for 37 (.162 avg, .517 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 1 homer, 3 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.  To make room for Alcantara on the roster, the A’s have sent 26-year old lefty reliever Daniel Coulombe to AAA.  Coulombe has pitched in 10 games (0 starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 1-0 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP.

The Oakland A’s activate Liam Hendricks from the D.L.

The Oakland A’s have activated 27-year old righty reliever Liam Hendricks from the D.L.  Hendricks pitched in 11 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the A’s and he was 0-0 with a 8.27 ERA and a 1.78 WHIP.  He has given up 28 hits (2 homers) and 1 walk while whiffing 19 batters in his first 16 1/3 innings this year for the A’s.  To make room in the pen for Hendricks, the A’s have sent 27-year old righty reliever Andrew Triggs to AAA.  Triggs has pitched in 11 games (1 start) for the A’s so far this year and he is 0-0 with a 7.29 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP.

The Oakland A’s send Tyler Ladendorf to AAA

The Oakland A’s have sent 28-year old righty swinging IF/OF Tyler Ladendorf to AAA.  Ladendorf has played in 26 games for the A’s so far this year and he is 2 for 25 (.080 avg, .195 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 0 homers, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base.  The A’s have called up 27-year old righty reliever Andrew Triggs to replace Ladendorf on the active roster.  Triggs pitched in 10 games (0 starts) earlier this year for the A’s and he was 0-0 with a 8.00 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP.  He gave up 24 hits (3 homers) and 5 walks while whiffing 18 batters in his first 18 innings this year for the A’s.  The A’s hope that Triggs will be better for them this time around.

The Oakland A’s have placed 24-year old lefty starting pitcher Sean Manaea on the 15-day disabled list due to a lefty pronator strain.  He has pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 2-4 with a 6.02 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.  He has given up 55 hits (8 homers) and 16 walks while whiffing 40 batters in his first 49 1/3 innings this year.  28-year old lefty starting pitcher Eric Surkamp will replace Manaea in the starting rotation.  He has pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 0-3 with a 6.41 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP.

Ryan Dull is looking sharp for the Oakland A’s in 2016

26-year old righty reliever Ryan Dull is looking sharp so far this year for the Oakland A’s.  Dull has pitched in 28 games (0 starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 1-1 with a 2.51 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP.  He has given up only 20 hits and 8 walks while whiffing 33 batters in his first 32 1/3 innings for the A’s so far this year, which are impressive numbers.  Dull has now pitched in 41 games (0 starts) in his first two years with the A’s and he is 2-3 with 1 save, a 3.10 ERA and a 0.93 WHIP.  The A’s have a really good reliever to help build the bullpen of the future around.

The Oakland A’s lose R.J. Alvarez off waivers to the Chicago Cubs

The Oakland A’s have lost 25-year old righty reliever R.J. Alvarez off waivers to the Chicago Cubs.  Alvarez pitched in 3 games (0 starts) in A+AAA-ball for the A’s this year and he was 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA and a 0.55 WHIP.  Alvarez pitched in 21 games (0 starts) for the A’s last year and he was 0-0 with a 9.90 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP.  Alvarez gave up 27 hits (7 homers) and 13 walks while whiffing 23 batters in his 20 innings with the A’s last year.  So he was wild and he got hit hard with the A’s in 2015.  They won’t miss him moving forward.

The Oakland A’s called up Daniel Mengden earlier today

The Oakland A’s called up 23-year old righty starting pitcher Daniel Mengden and he made his Major League debut against the Reds and he pitched pretty well.  He was the losing pitcher despite working 5 2/3 innings in which he gave up 6 hits (1 homer), 2 runs (both earned) and he walked 4 batters while whiffing 5 of them.  Mengden came into this season as the A’s #24 prospect according to Baseball America.  He pitched in 11 games (all starts) in AA+AAA-ball for the A’s in which he was 5-1 with a 1.19 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP.  He gave up only 43 hits and 22 walks while whiffing 67 batters in 68 1/3 innings in the minors this year.  Mengden has now pitched in 43 games (34 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 15-5 with 1 save, a 2.87 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.

The Oakland A’s have called up 1B/3B Max Muncy

The Oakland A’s have called up 25-year old righty swinging 1B/3B Max Muncy.  Muncy played in 3 games earlier this year for the A’s and he was 2 for 6 (.333 avg, .889 OPS) with 3 walks and 1 whiff.  Muncy has now played in 48 games in his first two years with the A’s and he is 23 of 108 (.213 avg, .678 OPS) with 14 runs scored, 3 homers and 9 RBIs.
