The Oakland A’s have called up 24-year old Dillon Overton and he will start tonight against the Los Angeles Angels. Overton came into this season as the A’s #8 prospect according to Baseball America. Overton has pitched in 14 games (13 starts) in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 8-4 with a 3.01 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. Overton has now pitched in 53 games (50 starts) in his first three years in the minors and he is 15-13 with a 3.06 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. The A’s have sent 28-year old lefty starting pitcher Eric Surkamp to AAA to make room for Overton. Surkamp has now pitched in 9 games (all starts) for the A’s so far this year and he is 0-5 with a 6.98 ERA and a 1.97 WHIP. The A’s should just let the kids pitch. Surkamp isn’t suddenly going to quit stinking up the place.
