The Golden State Warriors finished the first half of the 2011-12 season with a 13-17 record which has them in 3rd place in the Pacific Division, 6.5 games behind the Clippers. The Warriors are also #12 in the Western Conference, 3 games behind the Blazers. Here is a look at the players that made the biggest impact for the Warriors in the first half of the season in my opinion:
Team MVP: David Lee: 28-year old power forward David Lee has been very solid this year for the Warriors. Lee has played in 29 games (all starts) for the Warriors in the first half of the season and he averaged 37.3 minutes, 19.3 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Lee is also shooting 51.6% from the floor so far this year.
Biggest Surprise: Nate Robinson: The Warriors signed 27-year old point guard Nate Robinson early in the year and he has given them instant offense off the bench. Robinson has played in 23 games (0 starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 21.1 minutes, 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steal per game. He brings instant offense and energy off the bench for the Warriors.
Biggest Disappointment: Andris Biedrins: 25-year old center Andris Biedrins has really had some big time issues offensively so far this year. He just seems flat out scared to have the ball as he has only made 1 of 5 (20%) free throws so far this year and that is pathetic for a player his size. Biedrins has now played in 26 games (all starts) for the Warriors so far this year and he is averaging 17.3 minutes, 2.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.2 assists and 1.1 blocked shots per game. It’s too bad that Biedrins doesn’t want the ball because he’s shooting a blazing 65.2% from the floor.
